15 Years of Making Our Community Stronger!

Landon School will host the 15th annual Mark's Run 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 8:00am.

Mark's Run is held in honor of Mark Ferris (Landon '94), who lost his lifelong struggle with heart disease complicated by type 1 diabetes at the young age of 25. A beloved brother, son, classmate and friend, Mark’s strength in fighting diabetes taught those around him that life is not measured in years, but in character. The Mark Ferris '94 Memorial Scholarship is presented each year to a financially disadvantaged senior at Landon School who best exemplifies the qualities of enthusiasm and perseverance which Mark displayed during his life. Over the past 14 years, Mark's Run has raised $650,000 for the Mark Ferris '94 Memorial Scholarship Fund.

A Harvard Medical School affiliated institution founded in 1898, Joslin Diabetes Center is the world's leading diabetes research and clinical care organization. Joslin research focuses on unraveling the biologic, biochemical and genetic processes that underlie the development of type 1 and type 2 diabetes and related complications. In partnership with the Stewart Trust, Mark's Run has raised more than $730,000 for the Joslin Diabetes Center.

Thank you to the many participants, volunteers and sponsors who have made this annual event a success, as we come together to remember Mark, strengthen our community and help advance diabetes research. Thank you to the founders, Coddy Johnson '94, Burke Hayes '94 and Billy Walsh '94, who started the run in Mark's memory and to honor all of those in our community who live with type 1 diabetes. Thank you also to our Parent Chair, Mimi Schwartz.
